New Members
Welcome to Houston Lake! Our small hidden gem in North Kansas City. We are so excited to welcome you to our community. Please read below for important information for new members.
To pay your Homeowners Association (HOA) dues:
All HOA members must pay their dues on time to maintain good standing within the HOA community and to continue receiving access to the amenities and services provided by the association. Failure to pay dues on time may result in penalties or restrictions on your access to community facilities and services. In October, HOA members will vote to update the amount due.
Ensure that your payment is made on or before March 1st to avoid being considered delinquent.
Prepare a check for the due amount, which is currently set at $450. Make sure the check is payable to the appropriate entity, likely the HOA or another designated organization.
Once your check is prepared, you'll need to drop it off. The designated drop-off location is the mailbox of City Hall. This ensures that your payment reaches the appropriate administrative office responsible for handling HOA dues.
How to Obtain Wristbands
Houston Lake distributes wristbands to community members to serve as a means of easily identifying individuals who have paid their dues and are therefore entitled to access the lake and park facilities. Wristbands are a convenient and visual method of ensuring that only authorized individuals are using the amenities. By requiring individuals to have their wristbands with them, it helps to enforce the membership or access policy of the private lake. Below are the steps to obtaining wristbands:
Pay Dues: First, you would need to pay your dues. These dues likely serve as membership fees or access fees for the privileges of using the lake and park facilities.
Contact Susan Hodges: After paying your dues, you would then need to contact Susan Hodges at the provided phone number (816-786-2377). Susan Hodges likely handles the administration or management of the private lake and park facilities.
Arrange for Wristband Pickup: When you call Susan Hodges, you would inform her that you have paid your dues and request to arrange for the pickup of your wristband(s). She may provide instructions on where and when you can pick up your wristband(s).
What is the HOA responsible for?
City Services:
Essential Public Services: The city is responsible for managing essential public services such as maintaining streets, ensuring waste collection, and organizing recycling services. These services are crucial for the general well-being and functionality of the city infrastructure.
Public Facilities: City services include managing public facilities such as City Hall and the public park. City Hall serves as the administrative center for municipal affairs, handling tasks such as issuing permits, managing records, and conducting public meetings. The public park is a recreational space open to all residents for leisure activities and community events.
Safety Services: The city provides safety services through departments such as the fire department and police patrol. The fire department responds to emergencies such as fires, medical incidents, and hazardous material situations, while the police patrol ensures law enforcement and public safety within the city limits.
HOA Services:
Lake Health Management: The HOA primarily focuses on managing the health and maintenance of the lake within the community. This includes implementing strategies to maintain water quality, preserve ecosystem balance, and enhance recreational opportunities for residents.
Wildlife and Environmental Management: The HOA is responsible for managing wildlife populations within the lake area, such as controlling the goose population to prevent overgrazing and minimize environmental impact. Additionally, they oversee the health of fish populations and manage vegetation to promote a balanced ecosystem.
Invasive Species Control: One of the critical tasks of the HOA is to prevent and control the spread of invasive species, such as zebra mussels, which can disrupt the natural habitat and ecosystem of the lake. The HOA implements measures to monitor and eliminate invasive species to protect the biodiversity of the lake.
In summary, while the city provides essential public services, facilities, and safety measures for the broader community, the HOA's focus is primarily on managing the health and sustainability of the lake environment and associated wildlife populations within the residential community. Each entity plays a distinct role in maintaining the overall quality of life and environment within the community.
